Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure that corrects excess skin, puffiness, and sagging on the eyelids caused by aging, genetic factors, or lifestyle. Drooping eyelids can create a tired, aged look and, in advanced cases, can even narrow the field of vision. Blepharoplasty both rejuvenates the aesthetic appearance and provides functional improvement.
In upper blepharoplasty, excess skin, muscle, and fat tissue are removed to reshape the eyelid. Because the incisions are hidden within the natural eyelid crease, scarring is not noticeable after surgery. In lower blepharoplasty, under-eye bags, excess skin, and wrinkles are corrected, giving the eye area a more rested and youthful look. These procedures are usually completed under local anesthesia in 30–60 minutes.
Mild swelling and bruising are normal for the first few days after surgery. This process is easily managed with cold compresses, medication, and careful aftercare. Stitches are usually removed within 5–7 days, and patients can return to social life shortly after. Final results become visible within a few weeks, giving a natural, youthful eye area.
